We got a little snow.

Another busy week on the books.  On Monday we drove to Pittsburgh (in the middle of a snow storm) to pick up the in-laws from the airport and have a meeting about another Ft. Worth Pipe facility in that area.
Now if you recall, my last post was about my broken rump!  So a long slow trip across the country was less than enthusing to me.  But I loaded up my donut and headed off to get the fam.
Kevin and I took what would be a 5 hour drive from NY to Pitts and turned it into a 14 hour drive!!  Not really by choice though.  The traffic was horrendous.  At one point it looked like someone had shot cars out of a cannon all over the road.  I started taking pictures with my cell phone and within a 30 mile radius I captured 15 accidents!!!  And a few near misses on us!  UGH, talk about white knuckle and exhausting.  I think even more surprisingly was the fact that Tony and Elaine's flight was not canceled...delayed but not canceled!
Here is a pitcure of our drive in Pittsburgh.

So, everyone made it in safe and we had a good week!  Tony and Elaine left on Thursday and a worn out Kevin and I went to bed early...not checking the weather or expecting anything.

Woke up on Friday, and BAM!  Two feet of snow....
It continued to snow ALL DAY.  No exaggeration.  Kevin and I were packed and ready to head to NYC for the weekend to meet some friends and hang out in the city!  I was ready to go...but the weather decided for us that it was not going to be possible.  I kept watching the snow build and build and my hopes of getting out of town faded.  It snowed so much that Kevin and I had to shovel the whole driveway last night before we could even get in the garage.  We did venture out for dinner and found snow piled high in all parking lots!

Looks like we will be spending the weekend indoors instead of the city!

Valentines Ski Trip

Last week was officially the peak of the cabin fever syndrome.  All the gray sky's and snow was driving me crazy.  So Kevin and I decided to spend Valentines weekend outdoors snowboarding in upstate NY.

It was a first for me. Probably going to ruin the whole story here, but let me just say it was great...except this week I'm sitting on a donut!  Yep...pretty sure I have fractured my tail bone. hahaha.  Figures!

We went to Holiday Valley which is near Buffalo NY.  There was tons of fresh snow and lots of people.  We spent the weekend hitting the slopes (for me it was more bunny slopes) and even stopped in at the casino one night.
I have to say snowboarding was a lot more physical than what I expected.  There is a lot of getting up and sitting down, taking your shoe off and on, 20 minutes going up the lift to spend 2 coming down, ya know that kind of thing!  I learned that if you are going to fall, you probably want to fall on your rear end instead of your face...but too much falling on your rear end leads to this! :)

But by day two I could tell that I was really going to enjoy it once I was able to learn it.

Holiday Valley was a good place to start and learn they even had night skiing, which was cool. Kevin is a natural of course, but he did good giving me pointers and helping pull me up when I got de-railed.

So it was a nice weekend, but it was also exhausting!  I was sore and bruised in all the wrong places.  But on Valentines Day... I came home to this!  Kevin had cooked dinner and chocolate souffle's for dessert!  yummy!!!  He had flowers, candles and even music.  So sweet!!!  Perfect way to end the weekend.  I am lucky enough to have a husband who is patient while trying to teach me to snowboard, and loving enough to treat me on Valentines Day.

In a Rut

I am not sure if it is the weather, winter, or just me.  But I have been feeling in a bad rut lately.  I have been feeling a little "plump" since Christmas.  Got my new NY drivers license in and it confirmed the fact for me.  My face is so round and I have 3 necks!  UGH.  I look at my last picture on my TX license which was when Kevin and I got married.   My little face was so skinny and normal.  Now I just feel like a blob.  I have put on about 15 lbs in a month or so.  I know, its not a lot...but when you are small those pounds really show up.
I am also feeling very emotional.  Going for another doctors apt. this week, but I feel like a emotional roller coaster.  Nothing seems to be right.

So then you add on the cabin fever.  The weather has been gray for weeks.  And as pretty as the snow is, I like being outdoors and love sun...so its starting to take its toll on me.  Weekends are ususally spent on the couch cuddled up or cooking...because, well lets face it there is not much else to do!
I am fighting off the PJ's.  I feel like that is the last straw... hahaha
Cute sweats... those are ok, but the blah gray PJ's.  That is all that is left to officially complete the frumpy rut.  Lord help us all.

crafty side

Since we moved to NY I took a few house projects. One of them was my closet.

When we first moved in, this was nothing more than a room... and it had many options for what to make of the space. Some of the ideas that were thrown out... Closet, Pet's bedroom, Tanning room, Craft room (although I am not "THAT" crafty)

Soooo... I know you are dying to see what the room is now huh. Ok, here are some before and afters.

Dull and drab.

so we built some shelves.
I did some sewing by hand and made these curtains!!
Then, I took an old frame, painted it, and put half cork board/ chalk board.  I put a little girly trim around it and bam.  Cute huh?
Here is the finished closest, complete with a little vainity set and some personal touches.  I love it in here, often sit, get ready, talk to Kevin... lots of uses :)

More projects to come......
